Wright Risk Management has an active Intern Program for students entering or attending college. During the summer months, and sometimes during college vacation periods, we have many interns working with our managers on tasks designed to acquaint them with the scope of activities in a risk management firm.
Each intern is assigned a manager for a week or two and rotates through the firms professional departments during the term of internship. In addition to office work, we often take our interns into the field to observe activities related to our business, such as legal proceedings at the Nassau County Courts, hearings at the Workers Compensation Board, or field safety inspections of a local school or municipality connected with our loss control programs.
At WRM we believe that our future success depends on our ability to attract hard-working, intelligent, and conscientious people to our staff. Therefore, our managers work hard to make the intern experience a rewarding and exciting one.
“The intern program is terrific. I have had the pleasure to work closely with upper level management, and have begun to understand the inner workings of both companies. Being able to witness day-to-day activities in a business atmosphere is very beneficial for whatever path my future holds. All managers and lawyers are willing to take time to explain tasks and conceptualize them into the broader picture. Employees of both companies make coming to work a rewarding experience.
In CFO I am looking forward specifically to being able to witness what it truly means to be a lawyer. If law school is the path I decide to pursue, there is no better litmus test than the experience of being here. On the WRM side, I am learning how each different department fits into the large scheme of an insurance company. Regardless what business I end up in, this experience will provide a basis to see how each department must interact to accomplish an end goal. I am also fortunate to witness how a business initially launches, and understand all the behind-the-scenes work that must be completed to accomplish this monumental task.” - Adam Care, Haverford College, 2007 Intern
“Although this will be my fifth summer interning, I come to work each morning with the same excitement and enthusiasm I had on the first day I stepped into the building—something which speaks volumes about this company and the people that it employs. Throughout my time at Wright Risk, Ihave learned an incredible amount about the insurance industry, made rewarding, lasting friendships, and even managed to learn a little bit about myself along the way. This summer, as I am primarily in CFO, Ihope to gain a better understanding of the legal system and familiarize myself with an occupation of which I hope to one day be a part. Each member of the CFO family has made me feel incredibly at ease, be it with a simple smile or the precious gift of time taken to discuss a particular case. While I will soon embark upon a new chapter in my life, I will forever carry my experience at WRM and CFO with me.” - Katie Beer, Loyola College, 2007 Intern
“Wright Risk Management has provided me with an unbelievable opportunity to grow as a young business professional. I am currently a sport management major in my final year of college and have been a part of the intern program and the Wright Risk family for a few years now. The experience I have gained as an intern has been invaluable. The program allows us to work a few weeks in each department, which helps us to understand exactly how each and every person’s role is vital to the success of the company. Besides the skills and experience I have gained here, what makes this job great is the company’s human capital. It has been nothing short of a pleasure to work with those that I have, and I feel it is the individuals at Wright Risk that are the reason this firm continues to thrive.” - Matthew B. DeMieri, Neumann College, 2007 Intern
“This is my first summer interning at CFO. I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the United States’ legal system. I am eager to familiarize myself with the procedural details involved in litigation and defense. The hands-on approach here has given me a great opportunity to explore this area of the law, as well as to feel like an integral part of the legal team.
I have not yet settled on a specific area of interest within the legal field, and am enthusiastic for this opportunity to help guide be towards my decision. Two weeks into the program, I’ve already been given a glimpse of so many different aspects of litigation. I am excited to see what the rest of the summer has in store and to witness the development of specific cases.” - Rebecca Chen, University of Minnesota, 2007 Intern
